Pilates is a whole-of-body exercise system originally developed by a German boxer called Joseph Pilates in 1910. It was designed to improve body awareness, correct muscle imbalances and facilitate mobility, flexibility, strength and balance in every plane of motion. Since then, it’s been improved and expanded on by physiotherapists, exercise scientists and other medical professionals. It is a fantastic tool for injury prevention and rehabilitation, and is practiced by many world-class athletes as an important component of their strength and conditioning regime. Practicing Pilates regularly will improve your body’s fuctionality and capacity for work in your martial arts training. Matwork and reformer classes, as well as private sessions, are available.
